Earth Day; How Can You Change Our World

Earth Day; How Can You Change Our World

Sophie Stempson

How do you celebrate our planet? Earth Day was on April 22 and it was our 53rd Earth Day ever! The idea of Earth Day is to do something to celebrate the Earth, from picking up trash to planting trees. Even the smallest things can make a big difference. So how can you celebrate Earth Day?

History Of Earth Day

The very first Earth Day was on April 22nd, 1970. At this time, the world was dealing with toxic drinking water, air pollution, and the effects of pesticides. Surprisingly 20 million people protested that day!

How Can You Celebrate Earth Day?

Beach Day Clean Up

The warm weather right now is perfect for a beach clean-up! You can get a group of friends together, go clean, then you can play in the water! Just bring a trash bag and maybe some gloves. Or you can go to parks.ca.gov and check what days they have their community clean-ups.

Plant A Tree

Trees are one of the world’s most important parts of nature, and many of them are getting burnt or chopped down. Did you know that planting one tree brings in more insects and bugs than an entire backyard full of plants?  You can go to a nearby Lowes or your local plant nursery and pick out your perfect tree.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

There are probably many products in your house that you are not recycling. There is local recycling all over such as the one at 27635 Diaz Rd. Composting is also a great way to get rid of food waste and grow your garden. Just get a small bin and whenever you have food waste, you can just throw it into the bin.

Conserving Water

We waste a lot of water, and conserving water is not as hard as you think. Some ways to save water are not to overwater your plants, harvest rainwater, or even take shorter showers. It’s as simple as turning off the water when you brush your teeth!

These are just a few of the many ways to help save our planet. If we don´t do something about the problems on our Earth, they’ll just keep getting worse. So, how are you going to help save our Earth? Leave a comment!
