Today, there are many threats to the planet, including climate change, pollution, and deforestation. Many people are eager to resolve these issues but don’t know where to begin. You can start by joining an environmental club. Thanks to Mrs. Calverley and some helpful contributions by the Simcik family, TMS has one! They help maintain the garden, collect recycling, and host green activities for students. If you want to get involved, the information can be found in this article!
In Green Club, the three main responsibilities are maintaining the garden, collecting recycling from classes, and hosting green activities for other students. As of now, Mrs. Calverley is not accepting any more applicants, but there are still ways to get involved.
Ways to Go Green with Green Club: How Students Can Get Involved
Just because you may not be officially in the Green Club doesn’t mean that there aren’t any ways to be involved. Some ways to get involved are:
- You can help in the garden (Tuesdays only)
- You can join a green group (more information on the TMS website)
- You can buy a t-shirt (link in the ASB store, this is a fundraiser to support the club)
- You can help make our very own campus look better (only Thursdays)
- You can talk to Mrs. Calverley in room 930 and request a green Friday
The Simcik Family also built and donated two garden boxes. Mr. Simcik is a contractor with Southworth Construction and used his experience and leftover supplies to build the boxes with minimal environmental impact. Mrs. Calverley would also like if anyone has donations, such as bags of soil.
If you are interested in helping, you can visit the Green Club website for more information. If you want to help with the garden on Tuesdays only and help with campus beautification on Thursdays only, you can pick up a pass in room 930 for either. If you want to request a Green Friday, stop by room 930 during break for details. If you have any questions, you can email Mrs. Calverley.
Green Club helps keep our campus clean, takes care of most classes recycling, etc. What could we do without them? Are you interested in supporting Green Club? Leave a comment.
