Artemis 2 recently got back from the trip around the moon and I’m here to tell you all about it! Artemis 2 launched on April 1st, 2026 and returned on April 10th, 2026. This will pave the way for many new astronomical discoveries and missions in the future.

What Happened?
After so many years we finally went back to the moon. Artemis 2 was on a course set to go around the dark side of the moon for the first time since the Apollo missions with Buzz Aldrin himself even saying that the return to the moon was “long overdue”. They went around the moon while recording and captured many awe inspiring images of the moon and Earth. One famous one is of the Earth setting in the sunlight. They discovered many new craters on the rocky moon and even named one after the late wife of the commander Reid Wiseman, Carroll. After they named this crater they all gathered together in a heartwarming moment and cried together. This is as Neil Armstrong said, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

What does this mean?
This proves that we have the technology to make it to the moon and back, so in mid 2027, we are going back, but this time, we’re actually landing. Artemis 3 will be the next big step toward establishing a moon colony which will eventually lead to colonizing Mars. Interstellar travel may not be so distant in the future after all. These scientific discoveries will make the future of space exploration much easier for future generations.
So what did you think of the launch, was it cool? Well there will be many more astronomical events to come! Do you like learning about space? Comment below!
