Blake 2000

A heavy downfall of rain pelted the black hood of an unnamed student, as they stepped through the dark TMS campus. Their eyes narrow as they gaze at the rain-wet pavement. The recently paved cement was a sludge-like substance, still half way in the process of drying. The student stood over the wet cement for only a small moment before taking a strong stick from the nearby tree and stabbing it into the pavement. With swift movements, the student engraved thick letters into the pale sludge. The student flees with the fear of being caught, leaving a clear message at the scene of crime:

In The Year 2000

Years later, the writers of TMS Press chose to return to this infamous story– now considered a cold case. A group of writers were led to Mrs Calverley, a teacher with knowledge and resources for the investigation. The more we knew about the case, the more we questioned it. We began to wonder about the true meaning of “Blake 2000.” Of course, the most logical answer would be the name of the student and the date of signature, but many would think that Blake could be a friend or lover of the student; or 2000 may be Blake’s last name or refers to the “In The Year 2000” Late Night bit.

The Investigation

We found our way to “Blake 2000.” It is a large slab of concrete near the blacktop. Blake’s signature is clearly written in the concrete. There is still a strong debate on whether it writes “2000” or  “2090.” The idea that Blake is from the future was eventually neglected. Of course, the question still remains: Is Blake actually a visitor from a dark but inevitable future? After visiting the piece of cement, we returned to the classroom and searched for a way to discover who “Blake 2000” really was.

26 Years Ago…

After finding a year book dated back to the year 2000, we searched through it to find and select any Blakes from that year. The process was not challenging; there was only one Blake at TMS during that time. His name was Blake Adham. He was in 7th grade when he was accused of writing in the wet cement. He got away with the crime and graduated from this school unpunished.

Was it truly Blake Adham who committed this horrible crime? Perhaps the true Concrete Messenger is still out there. The mystery continues. Who is Blake 2000?
