Fireworks for the New Year started in China. It’s not totally known but most historians think that around 202 B.C.E., the ancient Chinese people used fireworks to support their beliefs. They believed loud fireworks would ward off evil spirits. Fireworks were used in weddings, births, and most of all Chinese New Year. It soon picked up when it traveled to Europe in the 14th century and got well known in the 17th century. They became more available to everyone in the 1830s.

Fireworks have grown even more in the years. They have now become the symbol of New Years day and everyone knows what they are. They most likely are celebrated during New Year because humans love to mark important events with grandeur.
