This year has been filled with many crazy ups and downs, but now that the year is coming to an end, we should reflect on what has happened this year. So let’s waste no time and dive right into this crazy year.

In June of 2024, astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore became stranded aboard the International Space Station following their arrival. Persistent safety issues with their spacecraft, which was supposed to fly them back home, led to multiple times of their trip being postponed. The two astronauts finally completed their unexpectedly long mission, returning safely to Earth on March 18 2025.

On June 13th, 2025, Israel launched a major attack on Iran’s nuclear program, targeting sites and important people in an effort to prevent the advancement of an atomic weapon. Iran retaliated the same day with its own missile and drone attacks against Israel, sparking ten days of direct conflict with increasing casualties on both sides. A ceasefire was declared on June 23 after the United States got involved, though the situation remained very tense after the incident.

At the beginning of June in 2025, protests broke out against ICE raids happening in LA and all around the country. These protests were met with the National Guard and Marines being deployed into the city of LA. These acts took place against strong opposition from California’s Governor and LA’s Mayor. These protests started the widespread protest “No Kings” and raised a lot of legal questions about the use of military force in domestic areas.

During January 2025, California faced extreme wildfires as they conquered Los Angeles County, burning almost 50,000 acres and creating mass evacuations throughout the county. These fires resulted in about 30 deaths and cost about 150 billion dollars in economic losses.

At the beginning of July 2025, Texas faced many flash floods, along with heavy and extreme rain around the Fourth of July weekend. The Guadalupe River overfilled at a quick rate and caused massive flooding in communities like Kerr County, where a summer camp was sadly engulfed due to the flooding. This horrible flooding resulted in more than 120 deaths, and 150 adults and children were still reported missing after the storms.

To turn to a more positive note, let’s dive into some more pop culture events that happened in 2025. Kendrick Lamar played the Super Bowl of 2025 on February 9, 2025. During the event, the Chiefs took a major loss, 22 to 40, facing off against the Eagles. During this halftime show, Lamar played many hits, such as Not Like Us, calling out beef between him and another artist (Drake).

Avatar: Fire and Ash was announced earlier this year as the sequel to the previous movies. These incredible films directed by James Cameron are predicted to be once again a box office hit! This movie will be released in theaters on.
