If you missed it, the Primetime Emmys were all the rage, premiering September 14th, 2025. We saw big wins, big losses, monumental moments, and lots of emotions all around. The 77th Emmy Awards you definitely didn’t want to miss,so let’s do a recap of the spectacular ceremony and find out what all of the talk is about.
What are the Emmys
Starting in 1949, the Emmys are a range of awards given for artistic and technical merit in the television industry. There are many types of Emmys actors, producers, directors, and writers can be given including the Primetime Emmys and Creative Arts Emmys that just recently happened, Daytime Emmys Awards, Children’s and Family Emmys Awards, Sports Emmys Awards, News and Documentary Emmys Awards, Technology and Engineering Emmy Awards, Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards, Regional Emmy Awards, and the International Emmy Awards. The Emmys were named after an “immy”, which is an informal term for the image cortical tube, which was common in early cameras, and the statue given to the winner depicts a winged woman holding an atom. The Emmys are represented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences ( ATAS), The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences ( NATAS), and The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS).

77th Emmy Awards
What makes the Emmys special is the difference between them each year. Every year, actors, writers, producers, and directors are put up for the same recurring categories, but each year is a completely different sight to see. What makes each Emmy Award ceremony special, and what made the 2025 Emmys, is the Host’s opening monologue. This year’s host was comedian Nate Bargatze, where he did an opening performance with SNL (Saturday Night Live) performers Mikey Day and Bowen Yang, similar to his SNL skit “Washington’s Dream”, but this time about the absurdity and history of television. During his opening monologue is also where he stated that he and everyone watching wants short speeches. So he promised that for every speech that was under 45 seconds, for every second it was under that time, he would add an extra one thousand dollars to his donation to the Boys and Girls Club of America. But for every speech that went over 45 seconds, for how many seconds it went over, he would remove one thousand dollars from his donation. This led to brief and heartfelt speeches being told throughout the night, including John Oliver’s 19-second speech earning the Boys and Girls Club twenty-six thousand dollars. Other monumental moments of the night include Owen Cooper’s win for his appearance in Adolescence, making him the youngest Emmy winner ever at just 15 years old. Another moment is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert winning their Emmy after being canceled earlier this year, and receiving a standing ovation. Hannah Eindberger’s win wasn’t just monumental, but how she used her speech. She used her speech to talk about the tragedy of war happening in Gaza, saying, “ Free Palestine,” and she also criticized ICE and how what they’re doing is terrible. The Studio broke the record for most Emmys awarded to a single TV Show in one Emmy Awards Ceremony. Tramell Tillman also made history by being the first black actor in his category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series to win. Then Noah Wyle, after 5 nominations, finally won his first Emmy for “The Pitt”.
