Best Ways To Get A Good Nights Rest

Sophie Stempson

Sleep is extremely important, especially for a middle schooler and not getting enough sleep could affect your physical and emotional state. It can even lead to even bigger problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and more. So, here are some ways to improve your sleep habits for a better night’s rest.

No Electronics

This one may be hard for some people. But, looking at screens before you sleep, can actually cause a huge decrease in your sleeping. Studies show that 2 hours of screen time in the evening can decrease the production of melatonin, because of the blue light coming from your phone, leading to a harder time falling asleep. You should stop using your phone around 2 hours before your bedtime. Instead of being on a device, you could do something like art or read a book!

Have A Routine

Having a routine is one of the most important things you can do to improve your sleep. It is also not that hard to do. So how can you have a sleep routine? Try to always go to bed at the relatively same time and don’t be inconsistent. Getting into a routine allows your body to naturally program itself to wake up and go to sleep at the same time.

Focus On Sleep Quality

You may be thinking, ‘How can I focus on my sleep quality if I’m ASLEEP?’ Well, it’s much easier than you think. Your body goes through 5 stages of sleep. Breaking this cycle could entirely ruin your night’s sleep. So, the simple way to make sure this doesn’t happen is to not wake up in the middle of the night. Make sure you go to the bathroom and take care of all your needs before you start sleeping.

Avoid Certain Foods

Many foods could break your internal body clock and make it much harder to get to sleep. So, try to avoid having large meals, spicy foods, sugar, and caffeine. When you eat too much sugar before bed your energy strikes up, and it’s harder to sleep. Some foods to eat instead are almonds, kiwis, turkey, or milk!

So, getting the right amount of sleep is very important. Remember, sleep deprivation can lead to many problems now and in the future. Are you going to try any of these? Leave a comment!
