Veterans Day
Every year on November 11, people all across the United States celebrate Veterans Day. But have you ever wondered what this special day is really about? Veterans Day is a day where we take time to thank and honor all people who have served in the U.S. military. The people who have worked hard and sacrificed to help protect our country and keep us safe.

How Veterans Day Started
Did you know that Veterans Day began over a hundred years ago? It started as Armistice Day, at the end of World War I. On Armistice day, people honored veterans that fought in World War I. In 1954. Armistice Day was later changed to Veterans Day so the holiday could honor all veterans not just from World War I, but from every war in every place.
Veterans Day Celebrations
There are many ways that we celebrate Veterans Day. Some towns hold parades or ceremonies where veterans are recognized and thanked. Schools might invite local veterans to speak about their experiences. Even a small act like writing a thank you card makes a big difference.

Remembering their service
Veterans have made big sacrifices. Most served far away from home for months or even years. They also faced danger or difficult conditions. Veterans Day gives everyone a chance to show appreciation for their dedication, and hard work.
Conclusion
Veterans Day isn’t just a day off from school, it’s also a chance to remember what others have done for us. When we honor veterans, we show respect for their bravery and for the values of freedom and peace they’ve helped protect.
