We are excited to introduce a new English teacher, Mr. Mercier! He teaches 6th grade and so far has had a wonderful start teaching here. He started this year and is excited to teach our school. Additionally, he had brought his experience from his college years at UC Riverside about writing! He has only taught at TMS for a couple of months but his students already love him. His students say he is a fun teacher that knows what he’s doing. I noticed while interviewing him that he was a great and fun person to talk to and I know that he is an amazing teacher. Getting to interview him and learn about him was a wonderful experience and I know he will be a great addition to our school staff!
What hobbies do you do outside of school?
“My favorite hobbies outside of school are skateboarding, playing guitar, and writing poems and short stories.”
What would your students be surprised to learn about you?
“Probably the fact that for five years I was a singer and guitar singer in a band!”
Do you look forward to something in this school year?
“I look forward to the narrative writing unit, which sadly just passed. But I like to help students structure their stories and creative ideas.”
Why did you decide to teach the subject you teach now?
“I chose to teach English because it’s kind of in that same realm of creative writing. I went to UC Riverside for creative writing for my bachelor’s degree, so I’ve always liked helping students form their creative writing. I also think English is just a great skill to have because communication with people is 90% of life!”
With Mr. Mercier’s passion for writing and dedication to help his students, our school will grow in the skills our students need for life! As he puts it, “Communication with people is 90% of life!” His experience outside of school with writing short stories and his college years show in his work and TMS will love having him. Just from interviewing him, I know he is a great person, and he will be an amazing addition to our school!
