Breast Cancer Awareness Month
It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so let’s wear some pink! Every October, people around the world come together to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a time when we learn, show support, and help others understand breast cancer.

How did it start
Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in 1985. It started because doctors wanted to help others learn more about breast cancer. Back then, not many people talked about it, and some didn’t even know it existed.
So, a group called the American Cancer Society and the Imperial Chemical Industries, the (ICI), worked together to establish the month of October as a month to teach people about breast cancer and raise money to find a cure. Breast Cancer Awareness Month started as a way to educate, and support, but now it’s become a movement of hope as well.
What is Breast Cancer?
Both women and men can get breast cancer, but it usually happens more often in women. Our bodies are made of tiny building blocks called cells. Usually, these cells grow, work, and rest in a very organized way, kind of like students in a classroom following the rules.
Sometimes, cells stop following the rules. They grow too fast and don’t stop. When this happens, it can form a lump called a tumor, which causes breast cancer. This is why doctors and scientists are always working on better treatments and ways to prevent breast cancer from happening in the first place.

Why the Pink Ribbon?
The pink ribbon became the symbol of Breast Cancer Awareness in the 1990s. A woman named Charlotte Haley started giving out peach-colored ribbons to bring attention to the cause. Later, others changed it to pink, and now it is known all over the world.
How can we help?
Here are some simple and meaningful ways to show support.
- Wear Pink – Show support by wearing pink clothing or accessories.
- Create Art – Draw, paint, or design anything pink themed to honor those affected.
- Make Cards – Send a kind message or card to someone you know that is battling cancer.
- Support Fundraisers – Join or organize fundraisers, and donations to foundations raising awareness towards Breast Cancer and looking for a cure
These are only some of many ways to get involved. By learning, sharing, and showing support, it spreads hope and makes a positive impact. Small actions from many people can lead to big changes.
Conclusion
Breast Cancer awareness month is all about learning, caring, and supporting breast cancer. Even though it’s a tough topic, understanding what it is and how it affects people is important to know. By spreading kindness, encouragement, and affection, even if they are small things, we are supporting everyone affected by breast cancer. When we speak up and show support, we make a real difference.
