The Great Candy Debate!!

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we all look forward to a fun celebration and delicious candy! Valentine’s Day is a widely celebrated holiday where you can give treats to your loved ones to express your affection. Candy is a delightful gift with many different types to choose from. The main types of candy include chocolate, gummies, hard candy, and sour candy, each offering a unique flavor that brings joy to your taste buds. The question is: which type of candy is the best?

Chocolate: 

Chocolate has a fascinating history that goes back to ancient times. Mayans had made chocolate and called it the “food of the gods” and used it in ceremonies. There are a few different kinds like white, dark, and milk. Each has a special taste, like how dark chocolate has a rich flavor while white is more creamy. Chocolate has a unique, smooth taste that many enjoy, but is it the best choice out there?

Sour Candy:

Sour candy is a fun and tasty treat that lots of people love. These candies have a special coating that makes them sour, causing our lips to pucker when we eat them. They often taste like tangy fruits like green apples and raspberries. Popular sour candies include Sour Patch Kids, Warheads, and Trolli Worms. Sour candy has been around since the 19th century and became popular because of its surprising and bold flavor, similar to gummy candies.

Gummy Candy:

Gummy candies are chewy confections similar to sour candies, but they tend to be much sweeter. Made from a jelly base, gummies are flavored to taste like fruit. Some varieties, particularly gummy worms, are coated in a special sugar that enhances their sweetness. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, gummy candies grew in popularity, and after World War II, Haribo emerged as a well-loved brand. 

Hard Candy:

If you like candies that aren’t too chewy, hard candy might be just right for you! It’s made by boiling sugar, which helps it last a long time.  Hard candies can be sweet, but some can also have a sour kick. Popular examples include Jolly Ranchers, Lemonheads, jelly beans, lollipops, and Life Savers. Hard candy has been enjoyed since the 1500s when sweetened sugar was made in Europe.
