As we greet the new school year, we are also greeting a whole new batch of 6th graders from any of the elementary schools in Temecula, or from anywhere around the world. Starting middle school can be very nerve-wracking and most people had a stressful first year. But even though it might seem impossible to make it through middle school, there are so many great things about it. You’ll make new friends, learn about interesting topics in your classes, and discover new things about yourself. These 6th graders will share their feelings about TMS so far.
Elijah Collins, Collin Bryd, Vera Spencer, Mira Somer, Kyleigh Berry, Isabella Maskarino, and Valentina Jimenez.
What was your first impression of the school?
-Vera Spencer from Vintage Hills, “It was definitely bigger and I liked the style of it more than Vintage Hills.”
-Elijah Collins from Vintage Hills, “Clearly bigger and I liked how there are multiple classes than just one.”
-Mira Somer from Crown Hill, “I liked how it was bigger and how it was laid out.”
-Collin Byrd from Vintage Hills, “I liked how it was bigger and that we don’t just have one teacher for everything.”
-Isabella Maskarino from AbbeyRanky, “It looked fun.”
-Kyleigh Berry from AbbeyRanky, “At first I was kind of scared, because I thought that the teachers were going to be strict, but none of the ones I got were strict so now it just seems fun.”
-Valentina Jimenez from Crown Hill, “I really liked the first day of school because I have different teachers and the teachers were nice, but I was pretty nervous.”
What is something you look forward to this year?
-Vera Spencer, “I look forward to changing classes, which we’ve already kind of started.”
-Elijah Collins, “I look forward to the concerts that I’m going to have later on in band.”
-Mira Somer, “I look forward to band and the musicals.”
-Collin Byrd, “I look forward to going to fun places like Disney for band.”
-Isabella Maskarino, “The end of the year field trips and fun activities.”
-Kyleigh Berry, “End of the year field trips.”
-Valentina Jimenez, “Good grades.”
What is a goal you have for yourself while you are in middle school?
-Vera Spencer, “My goal is to get to know more of the teachers.”
-Elijah Collins, “To just have straight A’s.”
-Mira Somer, “My goal is to make new friends.”
-Collin Byrd, “My goal is to make new friends, too.”
-Isabella Maskarino, “To make more friends.”
-Kyleigh Berry, “To get straight A’s.”
-Valentina Jimenez, “Good grades as well.”
6th grade can be worrying, you have to go to a whole new school, with whole new people (most of whom you don’t know), and have to find your way around it in three minutes. But it doesn’t seem like these students are very intimidated. They’re even excited to be changing classes and having a passing period. I hope they all have a great year and that their goals are achieved by the time they are promoted to 9th grade in 3 years. Share in the comments what your first day was like.
