Remember This? Things That Give Us Nostalgia

There are so many memories that hold sentimental value in our minds but sometimes, we forget them. The simplest things can bring back so much nostalgia in our minds. Going from shows to toys and food!

What is Nostalgia?

Nostalgia: “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.”

You can get nostalgia from many different things like your favorite toy when you were younger, a song that was popular in a special period of time, and much more.

Let’s break it down:

• You can get nostalgia from many different things (music, shows, toys, etc.)
• Nostalgia reminds you of a special place or period in your life
• We all get nostalgia!

Skip It Toy

Have you ever seen these? If you have, they might remind you of the 15 minutes we would spend playing games like handball, four square, and of course playing with this Skip It toy back in elementary school during recess. These colorful and fun toys were enjoyable for everyone, and it could even be competitive to beat your record. Not only did we use these toys, but kids as far back as the 1970s enjoyed the fun times these toys brought to them.

Go Diego Go!

Did you ever watch this show when you were younger? You might think of a young boy who goes on exciting adventures when you think of it! Diego would help baby animals in this show and one time, he even met up with Dora! He might remind you of when you were a little kid sitting on the couch, fascinated by Diego and his pet cheetah. This show went as far back as 2005!

Dork Diaries / Diary of a Wimpy Kid

These books were sure to pique your interest at some point during elementary school, or even now! Whether you go on a journey through the trenches of all things middle school and high school with Nikki or the long trip of middle school with Greg Heffley, both series caught everyone’s attention. Although we might not have caught up with their recent adventures, it’s fun to look back at these books.

Flappy Bird

Flappy Bird was a very popular game that many used to play! As simple as tapping your screen repeatedly to avoid hitting the green pipes with your bird, we couldn’t stop playing it! You could customize your bird from yellow to blue and other colors! This game is not as popular now with competition like Roblox but it remains a memory in our heads.

Twistable Crayola Crayons / Colored Pencils

With the many coloring projects not only in elementary and pre-school but also at home, these coloring utensils seemed to elevate the overall quality of the endless amount of art. In the endless buckets teachers seemed to have of crayons and colored pencils, we always seemed to reach for the Twistables. This may take you back to the days covered in color and enjoyable projects.

Wonder Pets

You probably recognize these three baby animals named Linny, Tuck, and Ming-Ming. These three went on to be superheroes no matter how big the animal was. Wonder Pets was a big part of a lot of our childhoods because of how fun it was to watch! You might remember when you were younger walking around singing the catchy theme song of Wonder Pets!
