When you see the news, there are sometimes small conflicts within countries or little wars. But recently, in the Middle East, wars have exploded. Countries including Israel, Palestine, Ukraine, Iraq, and more are all suffering from some sort of violence or war. But now, the US is also getting involved. Every war and conflict greatly affects the world, but what can they all lead to? Will the U.S. enter a detrimental war?
How and Why the U.S. Is Involved
The US has an official relationship with every Middle Eastern country except for Iran and Syria. The reason the US doesn’t support Iran is because they support many terrorist groups including Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as strengthening relationships with Russia and China. Recently, in the Israel-Hammas war, the US has been using its diplomatic ties to prevent an escalating conflict. They have been traveling to most Middle Eastern countries to try and avoid a regional war. The United States and China have been clashing for centuries but are finally starting to reach an agreement to co-exist. The US also announced that they would be sending troops to the Middle East, and warned Americans to leave Lebanon.
Israel and Palestine
Israel and Palestinians have had a rising conflict going back to 1982. But, in 2006, when Hamas won the majority of Palestine’s government positions in elections, it led to more disputes between the 2 for many years. Then, on October 7th, 2023, Hamas launched cross-border attacks on Israel, becoming one of the deadliest attacks on Jews since the Holocaust. Israel responded with an airstrike that killed thousands of Palestine civilians and over half of Gaza’s buildings. Many Palestinians evacuated to neighboring countries, as more airstrikes went on. Also, Israelis were being held hostage, and many were taken at a music festival in Gaza. As of October 2024, over 43,000 people have died.
Hezbollah-Israel
With the Gaza Strip being attacked by the Hamas-Israel war, they became unprepared for the strike by Hezbollah, a Lebanon group, on the Gaza Strip. After this, Israel began exploding Lebanon and killed over 3,000 people when they blew up walkie-talkies and pagers all across the Hezbollah community. Israel has repeatedly bombed Lebanon, including destroying its capital, Beirut, and killing Hezbollah’s chief.
Ukraine and Russia
Ukraine and Russia have been one of the world’s most watched wars and it has been going on since February 2014, resulting in over 43,000 deaths. This war started when Russia invaded Ukraine. Recently they have both gained new allies. North Korea supplied Russia with more troops, and following them South Korea might supply Ukraine with arms. This war has escalated to the point that there are theories that Russia used its most powerful non-nuclear bomb on Ukraine. Most recently on October 24th, 2024, multiple sources reported that Putin (Russia’s leader) welcomed Donald Trump’s pledge to end the war in Ukraine.
As these wars continue, we hope the US will not get too involved and that everyone stays safe in these war-occupied countries. Will these wars lead to something bigger? Leave a comment!
