TMS Has Dance Fever

Dance, dance, dance! Everybody loves dancing. The sharp moves, the quick rhythms, and gracious turns. I guess that’s what TMS thought when they added it as an elective. That’s right, no more of the same old electives like choir or band, TMS now has a brand new elective and a brand new teacher to make the class even more special. Introducing… the nicest, the most fun, and full of the best new moves, Mrs. Rice! 

• How long have you been teaching?

8 years.

• How long have you been dancing?

21 years.

• How is your experience at TMS so far?

Amazing, it’s going really well and I enjoy seeing students’ hesitation turn into excitement.

• What type of dance styles do you teach?

We work on jazz, ballet, hip-hop, contemporary, and social dance.

• Why did you decide to teach dance?

I love dancing and seeing people enjoy learning a new step.

• What is your favorite grade to teach?

I love the 6th grade through 8th grade. (But to be honest I love 8th grade girls because of how open and excited they are).

• Why did you choose dance as your elective?

Vanessa:I love Mrs. Rice.

Leslie: It’s a new elective that we wanted to try.

Janiyah:It sounded really fun.

• How is Mrs. Rice as a teacher?

Vanessa: Love her! We love her so much!

Leslie:The best teacher ever!

Janiyah:The best, most chill teacher ever!

• What do most class days look like?

Vanessa:We start off with warm-ups.

Leslie:Right now we are doing our hip-hop section so we work on that a little.

Janiyah: Everyday is fun!

Dance is such an amazing elective, and we are incredibly lucky to have it available at our school, along with the guidance of Mrs. Rice. Her passion for teaching shines through in every class, making learning about dance not just an educational experience but a joyful one. Her students feel extremely blessed to learn from someone who truly cares about their growth and well-being as both dancers and individuals.
