With summer coming up and 8th graders going into high school, now’s your chance to get a head start on your volunteer hours! Volunteer (community service) hours are needed to graduate from high school, and a head start wouldn’t hurt. These hours could also go towards the ones you need for CJSF. If you have qualified for CJSF, then you can go the extra mile for the medal. Ask Mrs. Hayek if you’ve qualified and get the paper. To get the medal, you need at least 7 hours of community service. The hours for CJSF are due May 15, and you turn them in to Mrs. Hayek. Now, enough with the explanation, let’s get to what options there are!
(If you would like more details on all of these opportunities, you can find them here.)
- Adopt-A-Park
The Adopt-A-Park program is where you can help out a local park. Some activities that this program has, according to the website, are trash pickup, graffiti/gum removal, reporting of suspicious or illegal activity at a park site, purchasing items, supplies, or landscaping and landscape maintenance (e.g. benches, tree planting, etc.) Facility and equipment upkeep and maintenance, and other improvements as suggested and approved by City staff. Here is the application and more information!
- Aquatics
The Aquatics program gives younger people the opportunity to be a lifeguard but without pay. They give you the opportunity to either be a Junior Lifeguard or do the Swim Buddy program. If you have any more questions, here’s the website!
- Museum & Library
The Museum and Library are different from the others. Instead of them giving you an application. They have their own ways to apply. Museum – here you ask them for the application or look on the website. Library – here you have to go in person and fill out a form, just ask them and they’ll give it to you.
Now, since there are a lot of opportunities, I will list only some, and you can find the rest here!
Did you find this useful? If so, which ones are you doing? Do you have any more suggestions? Let us know!
