The full moon is coming, the fire is bright, and colors are all over. Holi is here, and you don’t want to miss it! This festival of colors only occurs once a year, so why not learn about it now?
What is Holi?
Holi is the Hindu festival of colors. It celebrates the start of spring, rebirth, and new beginnings. The festival always falls on the day of the full moon and is a two-day holiday. This year, Holi will fall on March 15, 2025. The first day of the celebration is the day before the full moon when a bonfire is lit for prayer. The bonfire is meant to be cleansing and burn away the evil.
Why is Holi called the “Festival of Color”?
The day after the bonfire is the day of Holi. This day is all about the bright colors. On this day, people fill the streets to throw colored powder and water at each other. The different colored powders represent different things. Red stands for love, blue represents the Hindu god Krishna, and green represents new beginnings.
Where is Holi celebrated?
Hindus from many countries around the world, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Suriname, South Africa, and Malaysia, celebrate this festival. Even England and the United States hold celebrations for Holi.
