The Hawaiian Roll Chunkin’ is an annual competition at Temecula Middle School. Students build a device, such as a catapult, ballista, or trebuchet. Then, they launch a bread roll with the device they built and compete to see whose will go the farthest. The TMS Hawaiian Roll Chunkin’ is modeled after the pumpkin-chunkin contest. Students are also given extra credit in their science classes for participating.
What Are The All Time Records?
The record holders for the Hawaiian Roll Chunkin are Joshua L. & Nathan E. for the catapult at 22.4 meters, Jack, Zachary, & Carter for the ballista at 27.9 meters, and Ryan Ligtenberg for the Trebuchet at 23.7 meters.
Who Won This Year?
In third place, we have a seventh grader named Derek Zuniga. His device was a catapult and his best launch went 19.2 meters. In second place, we have Aurdrey and Sabrina Simcik, respectively, in sixth and eighth grade. Their device was a Catapult and their best launch was 19.8 meters. Last but certainly not least, we have a sixth grader named Guy Boyle as our champion. His device was a trebuchet and his best distance was 23.3 meters. His name was added to the record holders as 2nd on the list of trebuchet, only 0.4 meters behind Ryan Lightenburg at 23.7.
