It’s about halfway through the semester, and the 8th graders here on campus are getting ready for high school. To prepare them for their high school experience, they went on a field trip to TVHS! Here’s what they did and a few unique opportunities they found at the high school.
First in the auditorium they learned about the many classes, electives, and sports. The Dance Team, Cheer squad, and AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) performed on stage. These were just a few of the elective classes for incoming freshmen. Afterwards, student tour guides showed TMS students around campus. From the culinary arts kitchen to the auto shop and swimming pool, there were a lot of cool spaces to see that are not found at TMS.
Finally students gathered in the big gym to further explore any electives, clubs, or sports that sparked their interest. And there were a lot. At least a hundred posters and trifolds were set up, each representing a unique opportunity to get involved in high school: ASL, lacrosse, the Sponge Bob club, cultural dances, just to name a few. To end the field trip, every student got a T.V. T-shirt to start showing their school spirit.
For sure, there is a lot of cool stuff for everyone to look forward to. And there are even ways to be a part of the Golden Bears’ community before high school! Almost every performance is open to the public. You can see dance teams, bands, orchestra, and choir compete and perform. You can also buy tickets to football games and see fun things like Improv and JROTC competitions!
So, what do you think? Did you learn about something new that you’re interested in? What are you most excited for about high school? Leave a comment!!
