TMS Club Spotlight
June 1, 2023
At TMS, there are a variety of clubs available for students to participate in. These clubs range from academic to recreational and provide opportunities for students to explore their interests, make new friends, and develop valuable skills. Whether you’re interested in robotics, band, or helping others, there’s a club for you at TMS. Joining a club is a great way to get involved in the school community and enhance your overall experience at TMS.
Ambassadors ~ Mrs. Matus

“Bobcat Ambassadors is a peer support group. We mainly help 7th graders, but we are open to any grade level. We have mental help services and we offer many websites and links that you could use to better help.”
What do you do on a regular day?
“On a normal day, we usually go through our stacks of paper and see who needs help and who’s best fitting for that person because we all have different personalities and can handle a lot of different people. If we’re not doing that, we’re doing IReady, and if we’re not doing that, we usually making suicide prevention slideshows.”

“ASB is all about school culture.”
What does ASB do on a normal day?
“On a normal day, it depends on the day. We have meetings every week, we talk about what’s coming up, what school spirit days are coming up, what events we’re planning for, we find ways to stuff feels appreciated, we do stuff like red ribbon week and kindness matters week and also assemblies, and lunchtime activities. We organize the things that try to make our school fun.”
Green Club ~ Mrs. Calverly

“Environmental awareness and kindness to our planet.”

“We do paper recycling, environmental education crafts and classes with other students, and gardening.”
Jazz Band ~ Mr. Aviles
What is Jazz Band?
“Jazz band is a type of band that focuses on big band swing music, usually has much more limited instrumentation, so it’s more commonly saxophones, trombones, trumpets, and the rhythm section, which is usually the guitars, bass guitars, drum set, and piano. And here at TMS, the jazz band is offered during PRIDE as a bonus class for the top wind players and the rhythm sections. So all the people in Jazz are a part of a regular band class.”
How is a student able to participate in this type of band?
“So each year, at the end of the school year every year, we have students do an audition for what class they’re going to get into next year. And so the top Saxophone, trumpet, and trombone player will get selected for Jazz band and then the people for the rhythm section do a completely different tryout and that’s how I determine who gets into that.”
News Production ~ Mrs. Vogt
What is the News Production team about?
“We’re responsible for informing the student body about things that are happening on campus and about any other special things happening with any of the students.”
What do you do on a regular day?
“During class, students work on assigned segments such as the weather, ASB events, administration stuff, things we call ‘public service announcements’ like lost and found, things like that, and then we do some fun things like national day and would you rather, fun facts, so the students are responsible for putting together whatever segment they’re assigned for the week.”
Scholar Squad ~ Mrs. Sarkis
What is Scholar Squad?
“Scholar Squad is an organization dedicated to helping students get caught up on assignments and to provide a helping hand if they’re struggling in classes.”

“On a regular day, they can do their homework or they go to different classrooms to see if there are students that need help.”
TMS Times ~ Mrs. Kruger
What is TMS Times?
“The TMS PRESS is the school newspaper for Temecula Middle School. Students think of -news topicsand create articles about things middle school students are interested in.”
What does the TMS Times do?
“There are articles on culture, entertainment, current news, fun information, TMS news, opinion pieces, and comics. The students who write for the newspaper love to express themselves through writing. They also take pictures and report updated information for all students. We put out a newspaper every 5-6 weeks and get time to reflect and celebrate each month. What makes the paper so special is that it is all written, photographed, and edited by middle schoolers making this truly an amazing student paper.”
Yearbook ~ Mrs. Prato
What is the yearbook?
“The yearbook is a book that captures the best memories of our school year where we try to include as many students as possible, but there are over 1000 students at Temecula Middle School, so it’s kinda a challenge.”
What does the Yearbook do?
“We look at the list of who paid for the yearbook first and try to pull the kids from that list and interview them with questions that might be interesting to read later in life when they’ve grown up and are looking back at their middle school life. Then we go into classrooms and we try to capture what happens inside each of our classrooms and we go to after-school events and try to capture those fun moments for anyone to be able to see the best possible.”
There are so many possibilities to do here as a Bobcat, especially if you have the time for it during PRIDE, but there are also some clubs that take time during your elective period. But do any of these stand out to you? And are you a part of any of these clubs? Tell us in the comments!
