We all have seen the Green cupcakes and cookies in stores to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. But have you ever wondered what Irish people and people who live in Ireland eat on St. Patrick’s Day? Have you ever wondered how to make those delicious delicacies? If you have, then keep reading to find out!

Everyone loves and enjoys breakfast! It’s what helps you wake up in the morning. And you know what they say: It’s the most important meal of the day! The Irish breakfast food I am going to be focusing on today is boxty! Boxty is a delicious potato pancake comparable to a hash brown. These are usually filled with cheese, meats, vegetables, a poached egg, honey, butter, salmon, green onions, cornflour sauce, sour cream, or sprinkled with sugar.

Corned Beef and Cabbage
Corned beef and cabbage is a very popular food in Ireland! Corned beef is a filling and delicious salt-cured meat. And cabbage is a salty, flavorful vegetable in flavor similar to buttered and salted broccoli.

Irish Black and White pudding
The name of this sausage might be deceiving but it sure is a delicious meal! Irish White pudding is a sausage made of typically oatmeal, breadcrumbs, barley, spices, pork fat, and pork liver. On the contrary, Irish black pudding is a blood sausage usually made of pork blood or beef blood with pork fat or beef suet. It is also usually made of a cereal such as oatmeal, oat groats, or barley groats and a herb called penny royal or mentha pulegium.

Shepherd’s Pie
Shepherd’s pie is considered to be a cuisine peasant housewives invented as a way to use up leftovers from their Sunday roast. Shepherd’s Pie is typically made of minced meat( usually ground lamb), vegetables, gravy, and mashed potatoes packaged into a pan and baked to perfection!

Beef and Guinness Stew and Dublin Coddle
Beef and Guinness Stew and Dublin Coddle are both delicious Irish stews. Beef and Guinness Stew is a stew that is made with vegetables, sometimes Lamb (mutton), parsley, onions, salt, potatoes, pearl barley, turnips, and typically beef. Cooking wine and beer are sometimes used. And Dublin Coddle is mostly made of leftovers such as pork sausages, rashers (thinly sliced somewhat fatty back bacon), chunky potatoes, sliced onions, salt, pepper, barley, and herbs. Fun fact: Stew is the national dish of Ireland!

Now finally I hope you saved room for dessert! Barmbrack (Sometimes called Bairín Breac), comparable to Soda bread (except soda bread uses baking soda or bread soda in Ireland, to rise) barmbrack is a yeast bread with added sultanas and raisins! This Bread is associated with Halloween in Ireland, where they put an item, most of the time a ring, into the bread, and the person whose piece of bread the item is in is said to receive good fortune!
