Christmas is known as the holiday where gifts are given, and stockings are hung, but there’s so much more. So come along, as we adventure through time, and explore how Christmas began, and why we celebrate it!
Why is Christmas Celebrated?
Christmas celebrates the birth of a man whose name is Jesus. Jesus is known to have died for our sins and rose again. It is assumed Jesus was born around 4-6 B.C. making it hard to find the exact day he was born, so the date became December 25th, also known as Christmas. Christmas was created for Jesus, and made to celebrate him.
How did Christmas become about gifts?
There is a story about the life and birth of Jesus, and it tells us that when Jesus was born three wise men came to him, and brought him gifts. They did this as a way to worship the new king, the Son of God. This is believed to have become a strong tradition that many follow to this day, and is why Christmas is filled with gifts, and stocking fillers.
Who is Jesus?
Jesus is known as the Son of God. He was born from a Virgin Woman named Mary. He was a healer, a friend, and much more. Jesus was nailed to a cross, and crucified due to his beliefs. Jesus died so that we could be forgiven for our sins. This is who we celebrate on Christmas day!
Although this is a very simplified version of what Christmas is, and its origins it is still important to know why Christmas was created. Even if this may not be your reason for celebration it is still an important part of the season and celebrated by millions. .
