Introduction
Ah, the Olympics
So many sports, Such a big event, So little time…
If you are anything like me, I know you love the Olympics.
The Tension! The action! The drama! I Think the Olympics is the best time to kick back, relax, and watch your favorite athletes do what they do best. So enough dilly-dallying, let’s dive into the 2024 Olympics!
Gymnastics
I don’t know about you, but my favorite sport to watch in the Olympics has always been women’s gymnastics! Being a gymnast myself, I have always loved watching these strong resilient athletes flip through the air with so much grace. So, let’s start with naming the winners of the 2024
Women’s gymnastics Olympics!
Floor:
Women’s Gymnastics
The gymnast who took bronze was Jordan Chiles, from Tualatin Oregan!
In second place came…. Simone Biles, from Columbus Ohio!
And now in first place, with a total of 6 Olympic medals, officially becoming the most decorated Brazilian gymnast ever, (drum roll please), Rebecca Andrade, from Sao Paulo Brazil!
Floor
Men’s Gymnastics
Coming third, winning the bronze medal, was Jake Jarman, from Peterborough United Kingdom!
Coming in fast was Artem Dolgopyat from Dnipro Ukraine! Securing his place with the silver medal!
The gymnast who got gold, getting the Philippines their first-ever Olympic medal, was Carlos Yulo from Manila Philippines!
But alas, you can never have something good, without some drama…
Jordan Chiles, a promising gymnast who was working her way up to the top, was stripped of her bronze medal… At least that’s what she said.
According to Jordan and her coaches, When she had competed in one of her routines, the judges had given her an unfair score! To sum up what that means, the judges had not given her full credit for a certain skill she had done. That meant her score was much lower than it should have been, meaning she would not be receiving a medal.
In the rule book there is a rule that if a coach wants to change their gymnast’s score, they have to do it within a certain time limit. Before jordans coach went to the judges to explain their mistake, there was another girl who was supposed to win the bronze medal. So when the judges fixed Jordan’s score, the girl who was originally supposed to win the bronze medal was now told she would not be winning. The girl’s coaches were very upset. Remember how I mentioned that if you wanted to change a gymnast’s score you had to do it within a time limit? The other girl’s coaches went up to the judges and asked them what time Jordan’s coaches changed her score. Jordan’s coaches were 4 seconds too late to change her score. The judges realized their (second mistake), and put Jordans score back to what it originally was.
Jordan was stripped of her bronze medal and did not end up winning.
But enough gymnastics, Let’s dive into swimming! (pun intended).
