Marvel (aka the Marvel Cinematic Universe) is a very popular, and ongoing, movie series. Starring the Avengers and their allies, it explores their lives and the different villains they have to defeat to save the world. The movies are separated into “Phases” and Phase 4 has just begun. Let’s recap the best movies of the previous phases – and if you’re new to Marvel, movies to look forward to. (Want to contribute to the next poll? Go to the January poll form.)

5.  Black Panther

“After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.”

Black Panther first appears in Captain America: Civil War and gets his own movie soon afterward. It’s such an interesting movie and Wakanda is absolutely amazing. It’s definitely a must-watch! Is rated PG-13 and contains violence.

2.  Avengers: Infinity and Avengers: Endgame

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.”

This Avengers movie was crazy! All the people that we’ve seen in movies up until that point, were in Avengers: Infinity War. This movie had so many twists and turns, you had no idea what was going to happen!

If you haven’t watched Avengers: Endgame, skip over to 5, if you don’t want to be spoiled.

“Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.”

This movie is crazier than Avengers: Infinity War! The Avengers (that are left…) are back to save the world 5 years after the events of Thanos.

Both movies are rated PG-13 and contain lots of violence.

3.  Spider-Man: Homecoming

“Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine — distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming is definitely a must-watch. Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) is very relatable, well minus the superhero part. We also get to see Zendaya as Mary Jane (MJ) and Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.). Is rated PG-13 and contains violence.

The third Spider-Man film called Spider-Man: No Way Home is coming out on December 17, 2021, so make sure you watch the two Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

2.  Captain America: The Winter Soldier

“After the cataclysmic events in New York with his fellow Avengers, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America (Chris Evans), lives in the nation’s capital as he tries to adjust to modern times. An attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague throws Rogers into a web of intrigue that places the whole world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and a new ally, the Falcon, Rogers struggles to expose an ever-widening conspiracy, but he and his team soon come up against an unexpected enemy.”

This is the second Captain America movie, placed in Phase 2. It is rated PG-13 and contains lots of violence. This movie takes place after the first Avengers. We get to explore S.H.I.E.L.D and of course see the amazing Black Widow (always a plus!) in this must-see film.

1.  Thor: Ragnarok

“Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.”

Thor: Ragnarok is one of the most loved Marvel movies. The movie is rated PG-13 and contains some adult content. This movie is the third Thor movie (placed in Phase 3) following after the events of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (the second Avengers movie), and setting the stage for “Avengers: Infinity War”.

This movie is full of surprises and we get to see a whole new side of Thor, and his brother Loki.
